Find Location by Phone Number: What You Can Actually See

You can find the registered location of a phone number, but not where the phone is right now. A phone lookup shows the carrier, line type and the area the number is registered to, and a full report can add the owner's current and past addresses. It does not give live GPS, and no legitimate website can track a phone in real time.

  • Shows: carrier, line type and registered city or area
  • Full report can add: the owner's name and addresses on file
  • Does not show: where the phone is right now
  • Speed: free preview in about 60 seconds
  • Private: the person is never notified

Can you find the location of a phone number?

Yes, in a limited way. A phone number has an area code and a carrier record, so a lookup can tell you the city or region it was issued in and the carrier behind it. That is not where the person is standing. Many people keep their number after they move, so the area can be years out of date.

VoIP and prepaid numbers are even less reliable. They can be bought from anywhere, so the area may not match the person at all. Line type is the first thing to check, because it tells you how much the location is worth.

What does a phone number lookup show about location?

The free preview shows the carrier, line type and location of the number. The full report can add the owner's name, age, current and past addresses, relatives and social profiles, drawn from public records, social networks and the web. Those addresses come from records, so they show where the person has lived or been listed, not their position today.

How do you find the location of a phone number for free?

The free route gets you the area, not an address. Try these in order:

  1. Read the area code. It names the region the number was first assigned in.
  2. Run a free lookup. Deepscanner's preview shows carrier, line type and location in about 60 seconds.
  3. Search the number in quotes. Business listings and public posts sometimes include a city.

Free steps rarely return a street address. Owner details sit in the full report.

Do not pay a site that promises a live map from a number alone. Check what the report actually lists before you buy, and use the free preview first.

Can you track a phone's live location with its number?

No. A phone number alone cannot give anyone a live position. Sites that promise "real-time tracking" from a number are not telling the truth, and many are scams. Live location only comes from the phone's own settings: the owner turns on location sharing, or you use a tracking feature on a phone that is yours. Deepscanner does not do live tracking.

Is it legal to find someone's location by phone number?

Looking up public records about a number is generally legal. Secretly tracking another person's phone is a different matter. Using a hidden app or spyware to follow an adult can break stalking, harassment or wiretapping laws, and those laws vary by state. Deepscanner is also not a consumer reporting agency, so you cannot use it for employment, housing or credit decisions. If you fear for someone's safety, call the police instead of tracking them yourself.

Can the police track a phone number's location?

Law enforcement can ask for location data from carriers through legal process, which is something a website or a private person cannot do. If you are being threatened or someone is missing, report it to the police and let them handle the request.

How do you find the owner's address from a phone number?

Run the number through a reverse phone lookup and open the full report. It can list current and past addresses on file for the owner. For more on addresses, see how to find someone's address, and if you only want to know who called, read who called me.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see a phone's live location from its number?

No. A lookup shows the registered area and the owner's addresses on file, not live GPS.

Is a free phone location lookup accurate?

It is accurate for the carrier and the area the number was issued in. It can be outdated if the person moved and kept the number.

Will the person know I looked up their number?

No. The person is never notified.

Does Deepscanner track phones?
