How to Find Someone on Snapchat (By Name, Number or Email)

The fastest way to find someone on Snapchat is to tap the magnifying glass, type their name or username, and tap + Add. That is the method on Snapchat's own support page. If you do not know the username, you can also add people from your phone contacts, by Snapcode or from a Story mention. When none of that works, a name, email or phone search can turn up their username.

  • Search: magnifying glass, then name or username, then + Add
  • By phone number: save the number to your contacts, then use Find friends
  • On a computer: Snapchat for Web, Add Friends panel
  • No username? Deepscanner can find usernames and social profiles from a name, email or phone number
  • Private: a Deepscanner search never notifies the person

How do you find someone on Snapchat?

You have six ways to find someone, and Snapchat lists them on its own support page (Snapchat Support, 'How to Add Friends on Snapchat' (help.snapchat.com, page updated 11 Aug 2026, read 28 Oct 2026)). Pick the one that matches what you know.

How do you search on Snapchat?

Open the app and use the search icon at the top of the screen. Snapchat's steps are short.

  1. Tap the magnifying glass at the top of the screen.
  2. Type their name or username.
  3. Tap + Add next to the right person to add them as a friend.

Search works on a name or a username, and a common name returns many results, so a username is much faster.

How do you find someone on Snapchat by phone number?

Snapchat's method is your contact list. Save the person's number in your phone, then go to My Account, tap Find friends on Snapchat, allow access to contacts, and tap + Add next to them if they appear (Snapchat Support, 'How to Add Friends on Snapchat' (help.snapchat.com, page updated 11 Aug 2026, read 28 Oct 2026)). Snapchat says it stores hashed phone numbers and email addresses from contacts you upload. It also says users can only chat with mutually accepted friends or people whose numbers they already saved.

That only works if the person used that number on Snapchat and allows it. If it does not show, you can look the number up on Deepscanner to find a name and social profiles linked to it, then search that name or username in the app.

How do you find someone on Snapchat without a username?

Use any of these routes that Snapchat itself lists, in this order:

  • Contacts: works with their saved phone number or email
  • Snapcode: scan it in person
  • Mention: swipe up on a Story that tags them
  • Find Friends: suggestions based on mutual friends, location, age and activity, per Snapchat

If you have nothing to start from, a people search from a name, email or phone number can return aliases, usernames and social profiles. Deepscanner does not search by username itself, so go from the number, name or email you do have.

How do you find someone on Snapchat by email?

Snapchat's contacts method also stores email addresses. Save their email in your contacts, then use Find friends. If they used that email for Snapchat and allow it, they may appear. If not, a people search by email can show the social profiles and usernames tied to that address, which you can then search by hand. Deepscanner's main search takes a name, email or phone number.

How do you search for someone on Snapchat without the app?

Use Snapchat for Web. Per Snapchat's support page:

  1. Go to web.snapchat.com and sign in.
  2. Click the person-with-plus icon in the top bar of the Chat screen to open Add Friends.
  3. Click Search and type a name or username.
  4. Click + Add next to the person.

The search bar with a magnifying glass on the Chat screen only filters your existing chats, so it will not find new people.

Can someone tell if you search for them on Snapchat?

The Snapchat pages we read do not say that a search alerts anyone. Adding someone is different: a + Add sends a friend request, which they can accept or ignore. A Deepscanner search never notifies the person either.
